'Syriana' makers deny plagiarism charge

London, May 30 (IANS) Makers of 'Syriana' have denied that the script of the George Clooney starrer is plagiarised from Paris-based screenwriter Stephanie Vergniault.

According to contactmusic.com, Vergniault is claiming that the movie, which is directed and scripted by Stephen Gaghan, is based on her script 'Oversight', which she wrote between 1997 and 2002.

Vergniault's lawyer said: 'Writing 'Syriana' demanded direct field experience. It is necessary to be a specialist of the matter to conceive a plot like that. Gaghan has no experience whatsoever of distribution and commercialisation of oil, and of the geopolitical context.'
