Indian in Bahrain attacked by ex-boss



Dubai, May 30 (IANS) An Indian man in Bahrain has alleged he was attacked by his former Bahraini employer in what he said was a revenge act.

According to a report in the Gulf Daily News newspaper, 42-year-old Mohammad Sopy, hailing from Kerala, alleged that he was crossing the road near Al Dasmah Bakery in the city of Naim when his ex-employer saw him and called out to him.

The Bahraini then asked Sopy to get into his car, but the latter refused. Then, claimed Sopy, his former boss grabbed him by his collar and slammed him against the bonnet of the car. The Bahraini also allegedly snatched Bahraini dinars (BHD) 20 from Sopy's pocket.

Sopy, who has been in Bahrain for 15 years now, claimed that he had worked in the Bahraini's company for 10 months after which the company had dissolved. He alleged that his ex-employer was angry with him as he had refused to forge cheques.

Sopy also alleged that he was forced to spend about a week in jail after he was falsely accused of stealing building materials by his ex-employer. He had later won a court case against the Baharaini.

A report has been lodged in the Naim police station.

There are over 130,000 Indians in Bahrain, many of them working as labourers and domestics.
