Islamabad, May 30 (IANS) President Pervez Musharraf has expressed confidence that the induction of F-17 Thunder, built with Chinese collaboration, and the acquisition of an Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) from Sweden would make Pakistan's air space 'impregnable'.
'We are not oblivious to the evolving situation around us. We will meet all our security requirements and the balance of power will be maintained in the region,' he said at the concluding session of a two-day Pakistan Air Force (PAF) commanders' conference at the Air Headquarters.
PAF has recently inducted the F-17 Thunders while the Pakistan Cabinet last week formally cleared the purchase of AWACS from Sweden. Details were not announced.
'We are taking all steps for the security of our borders and defence of the country,' he was quoted by The News daily as saying.
Stressing that Pakistan had 'no aggressive designs against anyone', Musharraf said with regard to the neighbours: 'The desire for peace is not our weakness and peace cannot be ensured by staying weak. One has to make oneself stronger to achieve this objective.'
