Indian woman killed in car accident

Hong Kong, May 30 (DPA) A 37-year-old Indian woman died Tuesday after the car she was driving plunged into the sea off the former runway at Kai Tak airport while her Filipina maid, 52, was in serious condition in hospital.

Police said the woman had been parking her car at a golf driving range when the vehicle ran into the harbour.

The two women were rescued by fire department divers and rushed to hospital where the Indian woman was declared dead soon after arrival.

Police are investigating the cause of the incident.

Kai Tak airport was closed in 1998 but the runway and airport buildings have been put to various uses, including areas containing golf driving ranges, a go-karting track, open-air bus garage and the storage of construction debris.
