Sydney, May 30 (DPA) An Australian was charged with causing bodily harm to the 13-month-old baby he put in a tumble drier ostensibly to dry her after she spilt a drink on herself.
Perth man Samuel Siddall was left to look after the child when his girlfriend went to the gym. She returned to find the girl badly burned and reported the incident to police.
'The person we allege has done the act has stated that he has put the child into a clothes tumble dryer, closed the door and turned it on for a couple of minutes,' Senior Detective Deb Newman told Australia's AAP news agency.
'The injuries are horrific. In my years of being a police officer, I have not seen or heard of this type of injury before,' the detective said.
Newman said the child was expected to make a full recovery.
Siddall, 21, has been granted bail and will appear again in court in June. He was ordered not to contact the mother or her child.
