Suva (Fiji), June 21 (IANS) The body of an Indo-Fijian woman, suspected to have been murdered by her husband in Melbourne, Australia, will be given a Christian burial.
According to reports here, 19-year-old Nileshni Singh's body will be flown to her home in Nasinu, Fiji, Thursday morning, bringing some relief to the bereaved family.
The body of Singh, an Indo-Fijian, was found in a drain near her home in the Lynbroook area of Melbourne on June 10, hours after her family in Fiji celebrated her 19th birthday.
The body was seen lying in the middle of the road by a passer-by. The woman's husband, Amitesh Bali Jagroop, 23, has been charged for the murder.
Singh's family had faced a lot of difficulty in getting the body repatriated to Fiji.
Then there were reports that Singh's wish that she be given a Christian funeral after she passes away would not be fulfilled as the Agape Revival Centre had deemed that she had given up her membership and affiliation with the church when she stopped attending two years ago.
A report in the Fiji Sun newspaper quoted Singh's sister Sanjeshni as saying, 'But I cannot let just let my sister's final wishes not be fulfilled.'
'At this moment I would not like to state which church but we will have the service there,' she added.
According to the report, the funeral service will be conducted Thursday afternoon after the body is received at the Nadi airport in the morning.
