Wellington, June 21 (DPA) An 85-year-old New Zealand war veteran, who has more than 50 convictions for shoplifting since 1990, was jailed for one month Wednesday for stealing groceries.
The judge in Christchurch said social workers, doctors and lawyers had done everything possible to stop Reginald Hugh Donovan's persistent offending but he was an incorrigible thief.
The judge hoped a term in prison would serve as a reminder that he would be held accountable for his actions, Radio New Zealand reported.
