Kolkata, July 5 (IANS) The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Wednesday threatened to file a suit against the Indian cricket board for deciding to record a debit of Rs.400 million against its account and end all subsidies to the association.
'The committee strongly condemned the baseless and arbitrary decision of the BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) to debit Rs.400 million and stop all subsidies and payments to the association,' CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya told reporters at the end of the working committee's meeting here.
'The decision was conveyed by BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah in a letter dated June 29,' he added.
'The committee also decided that the association should write a letter to the BCCI recording its strong protest and if no satisfactory reply is received, the association should proceed for legal remedies,' Dalmiya said.
'It hurts to take up strong action against the BCCI as I have been its president. But with our backs to the wall in the face of unreasonable and arbitrary action from the parent body we are left with no option. In order to get justice we shall resort to legal means if necessary,' he said.
Asked if he had taken the decision to contest the CAB elections despite West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's unprecedented advice to the contrary, he said: 'Let me take that decision at my own convenience.'
