Chandigarh, July 5 (IANS) The son of a leading Punjab industrialist who was kidnapped June 26 has been murdered, police said Wednesday.
Police said the family of 22-year-old Ludhiana resident Vikramjit Singh had identified his clothes and other belongings recovered from Solan in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. The body was found near Solan June 29.
The Solan police had cremated the body. When Ludhiana police came to know about the recovery of a body in Solan, they asked for the clothes and other belongings for identification, which turned out to be that of Singh.
Ludhiana police chief A.S. Rai said the youth was shot in the head.
Singh was the son of the owner of Frontier Cycles. He was kidnapped from a market near his house in Model Town.
The kidnappers had asked for a ransom of Rs.10 million on phone, with the call being made from a Dubai number.
Singh's car was recovered from near the Alamgir Gurdwara near Ludhiana June 27.
The youth had recently returned to India after obtaining a bachelor's degree in business administration.
