Sex Pistols singer John Lydon wants to write a song for Britney Spears

The outrageous rocker - better known as Johnny Rotten - believes he and the troubled pop princess could pen a great track together, despite their vastly different musical styles.

Lydon, who was one of the figureheads of the British punk scene in the 70s, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “She has been hurt. And hurt is the root core essence of good music. I haven’t written a song for Britney yet but I would love to. I’d like to help out because there’s a girl who needs some help.”

Meanwhile, Britney made her first public appearance in months last weekend at the 50th birthday party of fashion guru Christian Audigier, accompanied by her dad Jamie and rumoured new boyfriend Jason Trewick.

Britney was reportedly on best behaviour, staying in the VIP lounge and drinking only water before giving her birthday wishes to Audigier and leaving early.

Other guests at the party included Michael Jackson – who came after Britney had left – Pamela Anderson and Mena Suvari. Performing at the party were Macy Gray and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.
