Bruce Springsteen has given up trying to compete with younger musicians

The ‘Born to Run’ singer – who turns 60 next year – no longer feels the need to please industry bosses and can now perform the songs he wants to.

He said: “By the time you’re my age the race is over. These are the victory laps. I can make any kind of music I want.

“I’m not worried about whether I’m going to be competing with 50 Cent. All that pressure is off.”

Springsteen is currently on a sold-out world tour and will play two shows at London’s Emirates Stadium, the home ground of soccer team Arsenal, on Friday (30.05.08) and Saturday (31.05.08).

Springsteen – whose career spans four decades – has won several Grammy Awards. In 1993 he was awarded the Best Song Oscar for ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ which soundtracked the critically-acclaimed Tom Hanks movie ‘Philadelphia’.
