Sweden's Princess Madeleine's boyfriend left her birthday meal early so he could watch Sweden's opening match in the Euro 2008 soccer championships.
Jonas Bergstrom attended the dinner, which was hosted by King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, at an exclusive Stockholm restaurant but made his excuses halfway through along with Crown Princess Victoria's beau, Daniel Westling.
Madeleine had wanted a family meal to celebrate her 26th birthday but failed to notice that Sweden were due to play Greece in Salzburg, Austria at the same time.
Bergstrom and Westling - who share a big interest in soccer - left minutes after the game started, and headed off to Bergstrom's nearby apartment.
About 20 minutes later, Prince Carl Philip and his girlfriend also left.
The king, the queen, Madeleine, Victoria and their German cousin Patrick Sommerlath stayed on.
Sweden beat Greece, the defending champions, 2-0.
