Monaco's Prince Albert II unveiled a bronze bust of his late mother



Monaco's Prince Albert II unveiled a bronze bust of his late mother, Princess Grace of Monaco, on the second day of his official visit to Belgium yesterday (18.06.08).

The 50-year-old prince - who currently rules the Principality of Monaco - was in the country to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the twinning between Belgian town Ostend and Monaco.

He was greeted by over 3,000 people as he made his way through Belgium's famous seaside resort, before he unveiled the bust made by Josyane Vahnoutte in the Monaco Square.

Albert was then praised in a speech by Jean Vandecasteele, the Mayor of Ostend, who said he hopes the special relationship between the Monaco and Ostend continues for many years to come.

The twinning of the two towns was first decided when Albert's parents, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, visited Ostend in June 1958.

Princess Grace is more commonly known as legendary Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, who died in September 1982 aged 52 after suffering a stroke which caused her to drive her car off the side of a cliff.

Prince Rainier died in April 2005, aged 81.
